Stultiloquentia
The whole thing's a lot of amphigourious, stultiloquential fiddle-faddle.

Any Gary Larson fans out there? I need a scan of the cartoon with the guy smuggling a piano under his trench coat.

Random observation about the Brüno trailer: Sacha Baron Cohen is using the German accent the same way much anime uses skin tone—as protective padding between his character and his American audience. If he makes you uncomfortable, don't worry, he's just a foreigner, you don't have to embrace or identify with him. He's a them, not an us.

I keep forgetting to mention: I have more Dreamwidth invites! Comment or email me if you want one. DW, if you missed the initial hoopla, is a site like Livejournal, except with many, many code improvements, some already implemented, more in the pipe. A big chunk of my flist has already moved over there; I still read LJ, but these days DW is my first stop in the evenings. Cross-posting is already possible, and the eventual plan is to allow people's reading pages (flist/blogroll/feed aggregator) to syndicate pretty much anything you can think of, filtered LJ posts included. Here are the rest of the 'Why I moved' bullet points. )

My friend Zehra Fazal is performing her one-woman show, Headscarf and the Angry Bitch at the DC Fringe Festival on July 9, 12, 15, 17 & 18. Zehra played Jennet Jourdemayne in the college production of The Lady's Not for Burning, I directed seven (!) years ago. She was an amazing, gorgeous, charismatic actor then, as a wee first-year; her resume since then has grown exponentially cool. If you're looking for something good to do next week, go see her! (And tell her hi from Stulti. :o)

Here's her poster

[info]fileg linked to this this morning. This is a flabbergastingly perfect Muppetization of MY FAMILY. This is WHAT WE DO when we go for walks in the woods, most particularly when we are walking through the woods from one family cottage to the next one on the bay, as advanced warning to the cousins to put the coffee on. Dad's in charge of the oompas; the rest of us switch off. Even though I'm the one who actually played picc in high school, Duff can do a sort of cross between an obbligato and a horse whinny that is a wonder to witness. I sent this along to her, and within the hour she called me back a-flail: "Oh my god, I feel like they've broken copyright!" I guess if ever I need to explain my father to somebody, I've got a handy shortcut....

Criminy. Right down to the Sousa (though we have several others in our repertoire).

* One very useful email from my Buffy beta.

* Six Horatio Hornblower VHS tapes, a hardcover of The Dispossessed, and two John le Carré novels at the library book sale. ([info]kyriacarlisle, we were placing bets on whether we'd see you there. Are you still not allowed back until you've read a clear path through your living room?)

* One chocolate bar bigger than my head from Trader Joe's. Fresh fish from Wulf's. And now Roomie has come back from Harvest with asparagus, which she insists she doesn't need help cooking. I just have to show up on the back deck in a minute and chew. \o/

* [info] - communityiron_chef_csa. From their profile page: So, you've signed up for a Community Supported Agriculture share. And now the vegetables are invading. Help! This is a community for posting recipes, asking for help with that fourth head of cabbage this month, and otherwise ensuring that no tasty CSA vegetable goes uneaten. (This community is friendly to omnivores, vegetarians, vegans, pescetarians, and Bunnicula.)

Between it and [info] - communityomnomnom, it's gonna be a good summer.

(Btw, I seem to have one more unused Dreamwidth invite hanging around in my inbox; would anybody like it?)

For [info] - personalquinara: here's a one-song soundtrack for Girl!Harry, and one for Urban Wildlife.

Still playing, if anybody else wants to. Pick a story of mine (whether I've written it yet or not :P) and I'll upload a track to go with it.

I have Buffy/Spike and Viola/Orsino short stories half finished, one SG-1 not-a-novel-goddammit on perpetual (ever since January) background track, and one poem that's been yoinking on my neurons for about a week ... and what's in the doc currently open in front of me? 300 words of Jack and Daniel necking on the back deck in Minnesota. Boys! Stoppit stoppit I am trying to write serious transformative works here! Also, Daniel, your cliché is showing, ew, I don't need to see that. Please take it inside. Humbug.
